- Lime plaster interior walls: breathable primers and compatible topcoats
- Original sash windows: stripping to sound timber, priming, and finishing
- Cornicing, ceiling roses, and decorative plasterwork
- Exterior render and stone: breathable mineral systems
- Heritage colour advice: Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, and Dulux Heritage

Lime Plaster Walls
Lime plaster is the dominant wall surface in Georgian properties near the Cathedral and Britannia Square. Applying standard PVA sealer or vinyl emulsion traps moisture behind the coating.
We identify lime plaster sections at the site visit and specify breathable primer before any topcoat. See our interior painting page for full room-by-room detail.
Original Sash Windows
Sash windows are prominent throughout Great Malvern spa villas and Worcester’s Victorian city stock. We strip back to sound timber, address rot, and apply the appropriate primer.
See our exterior painting page for full detail on exterior sash window scope.
Cornicing and Decorative Plasterwork
We mask cornicing before any paint approaches it. We cut in by brush, not by roller. Where cornicing shows loose sections, we consolidate them before work starts.
Replacing original cornicing is expensive and the reproduction rarely matches the original. Protecting it is free.
Exterior Render and Stone
Pre-1920 lime-based render on Barbourne terraces needs a breathable mineral system. Stone-built Victorian villas in Colwall need the same breathable approach. We assess each elevation.
Droitwich Spa Edwardian Properties
Droitwich Spa’s Edwardian semis have picture rails, original skirting boards, and high-ceilinged rooms with bay windows. See our house painting page if interior and exterior work are both required.
Period Colour Guidance
Heritage Palettes
Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, and Dulux Heritage feature in most premium period projects we work on. Malvern homeowners in particular invest in palette.
Colour Advice Included
Getting the colour right for a large spa villa reception room matters. We advise on period-appropriate palettes as part of the quotation process.
Not an Add-On
Colour guidance is part of how we do the job. No separate consultation fee. This applies to interior and exterior colour decisions.

Here’s How It Works
1. Site Assessment
We walk the property and identify every surface type: lime plaster, sash window condition, cornicing stability, render type, and stone species.
2. Product Specification
We specify the right primer and paint system for each surface. Written specification is included in the quote.
3. Preparation
Lime plaster is consolidated and primed. Sash windows are stripped to sound timber. Cornicing is masked. Render is assessed and repaired.
4. Paint Application
Two finish coats on all surfaces. Woodwork is sanded between coats. Exterior surfaces with high exposure receive a third coat.
5. Inspection and Completion
All surfaces are inspected in good light. Touch-ups are done before we leave. Walk-through with you before closing the job.
