Pebbledash Painting in Worcester

Faithful Decorators paint pebbledash across Worcester and Worcestershire — the rough, stone-embedded exterior finish found on thousands of interwar and postwar semis throughout the county.
Pebbledash is one of the most widespread exterior finishes on Worcester’s suburban housing. It covers St Johns and Claines through to Droitwich Spa, Evesham, and Pershore.

How Pebbledash is Painted
The uneven, heavily textured surface means a standard roller cannot reach into the crevices between the pebbles. We use a long-pile masonry roller and work the paint in with a brush.
Pebbledash also consumes significantly more paint per square metre than smooth render.
Preparation and Treatment
Pebbledash traps biological growth more readily than smooth surfaces. Moss and algae must be treated before painting. We pressure wash the surface thoroughly to remove dirt and loose material.
Pebbledash Repairs
On older pebbledash, individual stones sometimes detach from the render coat. We inspect the whole surface and fill any areas where pebbles have become detached before the paint coats go on.
Partial Pebbledash and Banded Finishes
Many 1930s and 1950s semis have pebbledash on the upper storey only. We treat each zone with the right technique. See our render painting and exterior painting pages for related services.

Here’s How It Works
1. Surface Inspection
We assess the condition of the pebbledash — biological growth, detached pebbles, and any damaged areas — before quoting.
2. Pressure Washing
The whole surface is washed to remove dirt and loose material.
3. Biological Growth Treatment
A mould treatment is applied where moss or algae is present and left to work before washing off.
4. Repairs
Any areas where pebbles have detached are filled and blended.
5. Masking
Windows, doors, sills, and surrounding surfaces are masked before painting begins.
6. Paint Application
Two coats of breathable masonry paint are applied using a long-pile roller and brush for full coverage.
